FAQ
Questions people usually have.
Answered here so you do not have to ask them first. And if something you are wondering about is missing, it is a very welcome question in our first conversation.
Not at all. “Something feels off and I do not know why” is a complete and very common starting point. Finding language for it is part of the early work, and we do that together.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, so I currently work with people located in British Columbia. What matters is where you are physically sitting during a session rather than where you live on paper, so if you are travelling or have recently moved it is worth saying. If you are outside BC, please contact me before booking so I can check whether I am able to provide services in your province or territory. That is always settled before the first appointment, never after.
Research comparing video and in-person counselling has generally found similar outcomes for the concerns described here, and it takes travel, waiting rooms, and geography out of the way. What it does need is somewhere private and a connection you can rely on. We can talk about what that looks like for you, including sessions taken from a parked car or on a quiet walk. More about what a session actually looks like.
What you say stays between us, with a small number of legal exceptions: serious risk of harm to you or someone else, suspected harm to a child, and a court order. I explain these in plain language at the very start, before you share anything you would rather not. More on how your information is handled.
It varies, and no honest answer is a single number. Some people come for a focused stretch of eight to twelve sessions. Others stay longer as things unfold. We keep checking in about it together rather than letting it drift.
Finding the right fit matters. If you feel that another counsellor may be better suited to your needs, I’m happy to help you explore other options or provide a referral.
Only as much as you want to. Context is always invited, never assumed or drawn out of you. If culture, migration, faith, or family expectations are part of what hurts, there is room for all of it. If they are not what you came to talk about, that is respected too.
I am not available between sessions, so this is not the right support in an emergency. If you need someone right now, call or text 9‑8‑8, or 911 if you are in danger. We can also make a plan together for what helps you on the hardest days.
